How To Make Sour Cream In Home

Making your own sour cream at home is a great way to save money and have control over the ingredients in your food. It is also a healthier alternative to store-bought sour cream, as it has fewer preservatives. If you are looking for quality sour cream then contact Riverina Dairy. There are two main ways to make sour cream: the traditional method and the quick method.

The traditional method involves culturing cream. To do this, you'll need cream, buttermilk, and a warm spot in your kitchen. First, mix 1 cup of cream with ¼ cup of buttermilk in a bowl.

Cover the bowl and set it in a warm spot in the kitchen for 12-24 hours. The mixture will thicken as the bacteria from the buttermilk cultures the cream. Once it is thick enough, use a spoon to scoop the sour cream into a container and store it in the refrigerator.

The quick method involves adding an acid to the cream. To do this, you'll need cream, lemon juice, and a whisk. First, pour 1 cup of cream into a bowl and add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Whisk the mixture together until the cream thickens. Then scoop the sour cream into a container and store it in the refrigerator.

Whichever method you choose, your homemade sour cream will last in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Enjoy it on tacos, potatoes, and sandwiches, or use it as a topping for your favorite desserts.
