Forca Aerea Brasileira (FAB) In service: 1955 - 1967 |
|||
| Brazil acquired 12 C-82 Packets from US stores in 1955 with departure to
Brazil in January, 1956. The aircraft arrived at Base Aerea dos Afonsos and entered service with 1 Grupo de Transporte de Tropa (1 GTT), translated as the 1st Troop Transport Group. Brazilian Packet operations were served in partnership with the Army's parachute brigade with relative success. Brazil acquired more modern C-119 transports in late 1963 and the last C-82 was retired in 1967. All aircraft were in overall bare metal finish with national insignia on each wing with green & yellow tail fins and black anti-corrosion paint on the lower half of the booms and ventral fins. Markings were Forca Aerea Brasileira on the fuselage sides, the 4-digit serial number was on the tails along with the aircraft type (C82 2200 etc.), the last three digits of the serial number were repeated on the forward fuselage. |
