All About NCR Paper

NCR paper is short for non-copy paper. It is also known as carbon-free copy paper or CCP. This carbon free carbon paper is an alternative to carbon paper, which is used to copy original documents in handwritten text or to print without using electronics.

Before carbon-free copy paper was invented, people wrote documents more than once or used carbon paper. Carbon paper is inserted between the writing sheet and the copy. This method leaves it up to the user's fingers. Carbon-free carbon makes multiple copies of manuscripts and written documents simple and clean. The advantage of carbon free paper is that the alternative does not degrade or stain the carbon paper. NCR first made this product and labeled it unnecessary carbon or NCR paper to make it the basis of their national cash register.

Carbon-free copy paper is made of sheets of paper coated with a microdia-encapsulated dye or ink and possibly reactive clay. The back of the first sheet is covered with microencapsulated dye. The bottom sheet is covered on top with clay, which quickly reacts with the dye to form a permanent mark. The panels are painted directly with clay on the top and painted on the bottom.

The paper can be used in dot matrix and printer applications where the heads prominently release dye to interact with sound. Carbon-free copy paper can also be available in a standalone version, which has ink and clay on the same side of the paper.
